Combining craft with his personal joy of hunting and fishing, Chris Boone began carving decoys at the age of twelve. His first carving tools were a gift from his parents who greatly influenced Chris to choose a career in the arts.
His carvings are primitive style wooden sculpture from old world, modern, and life reference. Favorite woods to carve from are cedar, pine, and various hardwoods from the beautiful forests of North Carolina. Chris personally chooses each section of tree before beginning the sculpture. Shape and form are derived from the unique characteristics of every piece of wood. Chris embraces the lichen, bark, and moss attached to the wood, making each piece an original. A fine hand finish is applied to each bird to bring out subtle grain patterns and enhance the colors of the wood. Chris’s 40 years of woodworking has turned a hunter’s tool into a work of fine art.
